Hot Rhythm Holiday offers music classes led by local and visiting professional musicians. Everyone is invited to participate; dancers who are learning an instrument, musicians who want to further explore the early jazz and swing idioms, high school and college level jazz students, and folks who may have played an instrument earlier in life and would like to revive their playing — all are welcome.
Throughout the weekend, our music faculty will also be leading afternoon jam sessions for those interested in practicing the principles offered during the classes. All instruments are welcome!
Our music instructors will be available throughout the weekend for private lessons. Private lessons will be scheduled individually with instructors and instructors’ fees will apply.
Please, bring your own properly functioning instrument. A drum set and piano will be provided. A string bass can also be made available.
- At a minimum, participants should be familiar with the keys of G, C, F, B♭, E♭, A♭. Guitar, banjo, piano, and ukulele players, please be familiar with the chords in these keys; horns/fiddles/vocalists should have enough playing experience to execute basic melodies.
- You must register in advance of the event. Deadline to register for music classes is two weeks prior to the event.
- Sheet music or other preparation materials may be sent out by instructors prior to the event.
- You are expected to prepare for class with whatever materials and instructions are provided by the instructor.
If you'd like to participate, but are unsure if you have the appropriate musical background/skills, please do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
